HOW THE WEEKEND CAME TO BE
When Danie started building The Gathering, I immediately started thinking about everything happening around that one Saturday.
People are going to be traveling into the area. Vendors are going to be spending the day meeting couples and other businesses. Couples are going to be discovering people they may actually hire for their weddings. Everyone is coming together for the same reason, but a wedding show only gives you so much time.
And I kept thinking, why should everybody come all this way for one day and then go home?
That is where The Gathering Weekend started.
Aquarian Nation took the idea of The Gathering and built a hospitality experience around it so people would have time to arrive, settle in, meet each other, enjoy the event, celebrate afterward, and spend one more morning together before heading home.
The Gathering is still the heart of Saturday.
The weekend gives us more time around it.
FRIDAY FEBRUARY 26, 2027
ARRIVAL + WELCOME MIXER
Friday is really just about giving everybody a chance to get here, get settled, and ease into the weekend instead of being thrown straight into a full event day. People are coming in from all over, checking into the hotel, unpacking, and probably trying to figure out who else has already arrived. That's exactly why I wanted Friday to stay simple — come in, get comfortable, meet a few people, and start the weekend without feeling rushed.
The Welcome Mixer is there so vendors can talk to other vendors, couples can meet some of the people they'll see again on Saturday, and folks who've only known each other online finally get to meet face to face. Nothing formal, nothing forced — just a good way to kick off the weekend and give people real time to connect before Saturday gets busy.
THE GATHERING WEEKEND HOMEBASE
HILTON GARDEN INN MERCED
The Hilton Garden Inn Merced is our homebase for the entire weekend. That mattered to me because I didn't want everybody scattered across Merced in random hotels, only crossing paths when something was officially on the schedule. The whole point of this weekend is to actually spend time together, so having one place to stay, meet up, and come back to makes the whole thing feel connected instead of like a series of separate events.
This is where the Friday Welcome Mixer happens. This is where everyone comes back for the Afterparty Saturday night. And this is where we'll gather one more time Sunday morning for brunch.
